Prayer to live the Life

Another iPod workout prayer. This one is practically my biography.

++
There was a time as a little boy when I said I'd follow you
But the years have caused the flame to burn much stronger now
And I'm not burning down any of my bridges, but I'm burning up inside
To flee from my religion and love my neighbor more

Prayer for persistence

I was working out while listening to my iPod, when I was suddenly taken into a prayer for persistence:

++
In your house I long to be
Room by room, patiently
I'll wait for you there
Like a stone
I'll wait for you there
Alone

Prayer for humility

++
When I am misunderstood, help me not to lash back.
When I have had my say, help me not to have the last word.
When others see things differently, help me to remember their context.
When I am enthusiastic, help me not to practice human sacrifice.
When others succeed, help me to celebrate.
When I am discouraged, remind me that you will accomplish your purposes.
When I am lonely, help me not to pity myself.

A day with Mike Frost

Mike Frost

My mind is racing. Too many thoughts. Can't sleep.

As I was tucking in my daughters tonight, I shared with them the simple practice I learned today of blessing three people a week. Shelly said, "It's like that movie you were talking about once, where one person blesses three other people, and those people go bless other people, and so on."
I said, "Wow, it's like Jesus talking about the mustard seed!"

Soliton is on

Wish I were there. Look at these geeks!

(I like Kester's title for this on YouTube: "The True Sadness of the Emerging Church".)

Jesus Hates Rush

Rush-LogoWent to see Rush last Wednesday. Wow, those guys can still play! And it wasn't like a nostalgia tour -- they were promoting a new (!) album. But the most familiar songs date back to 1979 and 1981. Good, good stuff. The new stuff was good, too.

On our way into the venue, though, I saw a group of people holding large signs and though, "Oh, no." Oh yes, the signs listed all the types of people that God hates. There was a fellow with a megaphone. One of the sign-holders made a point of saying to us, "Jesus hates Rush!" If this is evangelism, where's the evangel (good news)?

It's funny that only a few weeks ago, we discussed evangelism at The Journey, particularly negative stereotypes like the phrase, "turn or burn." I kid you not, several of these so-called evangelists were wearing shirts which said "TURN OR BURN in hell".

So, why does Jesus hate Rush so much? We were puzzling about this, until I spotted the back of one person's shirt featuring the logo from 2112. Ah-ha! There's something that looks like a pentagram! Witchcraft! OK, so it's not exactly a pentagram. But it sure suggests one! And that looks like nudity!
