I am an MK from Ecuador, but am in US for college. Please know that my prayers are with Luke. Those mountains can be treacherous, especially with the fog.

Just saw on the Talor U. site that he's been found. Praise be to God! I look forward to hearing the story.

Hey MK! (I'm an MK from Japan.) Thanks for your prayers, and for your local knowledge helping me get a slightly better context.

Small world, I keep running into MKs...
I never hiked in Cajas, but I went hiking in similar terrain in December. Pics can be seen here: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2040079&l=0c842&id=45709301

I wonder how he kept warm? According to the Ecuadorian news, he was in shorts and a t-shirt, and at 13000FT, it can get cold.

Wow, those foggy photos…! Thanks.
BTW Luke himself is an MK from Nepal.

somehow I had gathered that he was. I think your comment on his being from Nepal, but nothing else mentioning it, and his picture not looking nepalese together tipped me off.

Here's an ecuadorian news story on his being found.
I've translated a few key paragraphs.

"Dornon survived around 30 hours at low temperatures thanks to his knowledge as a mountaineer 'and the hand of God' as his companions said."

"Dornon dealt with the cold thanks to his finding refufe in the midst of some bushes and covering his legs with a map, which was the only possesion he carried with him. He did not eat or drink during the whole incident"

"'It was a difficult fight that he had to keep up to avoid freezing' said John Mason, the US Embassy delegate who came to Cuenca to support the rescue operations"

Aparently he was following a trail Monday, and two cops who were nearby heard him, and then called in the Red Cross.

Thanks for the link, and the translation!
