Now, for sure I am a hypocrite in many ways, so I need to be careful when I turn my head that my eye-log doesn't whack anyone. Still, I have a bit of a problem with someone making a video to promote how they are going to sell their house and give away half the money. Do it and do it quietly. If God wants others to do this, he will lead them. In a way, this is similar to what Ananais and Sapphira did: a real estate deal worked out in front of other people to glorify themselves.

Even with the best intentions of challenging and encouraging others to take bold steps for the poor, I think this is posturing.

Yeah. But didn't Ananias and Sapphira lie? Wasn't their sin the dishonesty to the holy spirit? Not sure it's the same thing.

And, the hypocrites in the synagogues were guilty of what? Wasn't their sin the need to be honored and lifted high before men? Again, not sure if it translates to what Hannah's family is doing. It might, but it's something you or I would never know.

I see your point, but am reluctant to give it weight because, contextually speaking, it's apples and oranges.
